April 22, 2014 -- In recognition of his retirement from the Connecticut State Senate and to thank him for his commitment to ensuring that all state residents have access to the highest quality oral health care, the Connecticut State Dental Association (CSDA) awarded Senator Donald Williams with the “Friend of Dentistry” award on March 26, 2014.

“Throughout his legislative career, Senator Williams has consistently supported legislation that has ensured Connecticut’s citizens have access to, and can maintain good oral health care,” said Dr. Mark Desrosiers, CSDA President. “Senator Williams was instrumental in passing legislation that banned sugary drinks from school vending machines. His efforts to increase dental Medicaid reimbursement rates was the first and most important step to building a dental Medicaid system that is one of the highest producing programs, and is a model for the rest of the country.”

The “Friend of Dentistry” award was created in 2014 to recognize elected and appointed officials for their efforts to ensure that all Connecticut citizens have access to the highest quality oral healthcare. Senator Williams was the first to receive the award.
