New Dentist Program


Join us for two webinars as we speak with past recipients of the ADA 10 Under 10 Award. These dentists will share their past experience as new dentists and their involvement in the dental community. Panelists are from across the country and will share their advice for those entering the dental profession.

Panelist Bios:

Dr. Wade Banner is a California Board Certified dentist and dental consultant for the SGPRC. He received his degree from Western University in Pomona, CA in 2014. Following dental school, he became faculty for Western University working in their community dental clinics which he continues to hold adjunct faculty status with. Dr. Banner started In Motion Dentists in 2014, a private dental practice that provided exclusively comprehensive house-call dental services, until July 2021 when he added onto this practice by opening a brick-and-mortar location in La Verne, CA. Dr. Banner holds several rolls in organized dentistry at the local, state and national levels including being on the Board of Directors for the Tri-County Dental Society, delegate for the California Dental Association and on the Communication Committee for the American Dental Association. Finally, Dr. Banner and his wife have 2 boys under the age of 3 and they enjoy spending weekend get-a-ways as a family.

Dr. Sampada Deshpande is the founder and president of the New Dentist Business Club, which provides interactive business education to new dentists and dental students. In this role, she recruits speakers and mentors for new dentists to help with practice management and keeping up with the regulatory process in dentistry. Dr. Deshpande is a guest blogger for the ADA New Dentist Now and sits on the Seattle King County Dental Foundation’s Board. As someone who believes in giving back, Dr. Deshpande is very active in the community, having volunteered as a Youth Academic Tutor for the International Rescue Committee and the Lead Dentist for Medical Teams International mobile dental vans and Seattle/King County Clinic held in Key Arena.

Dr. Brian Hathcoat grew up in a military family and spent most of his youth in the Midwest. After graduating high school, he served in the U.S. Navy, then moved to California to attend U.C. Berkeley, where he earned a B.S. and M.S. in mechanical engineering. He worked at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory prior to attending dental school at the University of the Pacific in San Francisco, where he earned his DDS. Prior to joining the office of Dr. Sandra Gadwood, Dr. Hathcoat worked as a public health dentist for Contra Costa Health Services, primarily at the West County Health Center, and at a private practice in Alameda. He volunteers dental services regularly at the Berkeley Free Clinic, for CDA Cares, and is co-founder of Just Health 510, a nonprofit providing dental care for the homeless and underserved.

Dr. James Lee is a native of Lexington, MA. Dr. Lee received a Bachelor of Science in biology from Boston University in 2009 and a Master of Medical Sciences from the Boston University School of Medicine in 2010. He earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine from the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine in 2014. Dr. Lee is an active member of the Massachusetts Dental Society (MDS), serving on the MDS Membership Committee and participating in the MDS Mentor Program, a partnership with the American Student Dental Association which connects experienced dentists with dental students to help guide them through school and into dental practice.

Dr. Amrita Patel has helped to advocate for change so new dentists have a voice in leadership. In this role, she has served as a resource to her community by working tirelessly to establish a team of proponents to educate her fellow dentists to see the importance of diversity and inclusion. She is part of the current class of the Institute for Diversity in Leadership and runs the social media programming for the International College of Dentists, USA Section, where she was also inducted as a Fellow in 2018. She was awarded the Bernard Tillis Award by the New York State Dental Association and is a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy. Dr. Patel and her father, endodontist Dr. Rohit Z. Patel, own multiple specialty group practices in the New York City metropolitan area.

Dr. Nathan Suter, of Kirkwood, Missouri. Dr. Suter is the CEO of Access Teledentistry and owner of Green Leaf Dental Care. In partnership with the Missouri Dental Association, Dr. Suter worked to pass state legislation that expanded the use of teledentistry in Missouri. In addition, he has developed a teledentistry training workshop and has spoken nationally on the topic of teledentistry. In 2019, he received the Dentist of the Year award from the Missouri Dental Association.
